Basanta K Pradhan is, currently, the Director and Vice Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai. Previously, he worked as Professor at the Development Planning Centre, Institute of Economic Growth (Delhi) and Chief Economist at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (Delhi). He has also held research/teaching positions at State University of New York at Stony Brook (USA), at the ISI and at the ICRIER. He has been a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling, University of Canberra (Australia); Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Globalization and Regionalization, University of Warwick (UK); Senior Visiting Scholar at Chr. Michelsen Institute (Norway); Visiting Research Professor in Economics, Boston University (USA); Academic Visitor at the University of Western Ontario (Canada); and Academic Visitor at the Beijing Institute of Technology (China), among others.
