Concept Note

National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India conducts various socio-economic surveys across states in India and reports are brought out regularly. The reports provide aggregate (macro) level information which have certain research and policy importance. However, unit level data of various rounds of NSS surveys emerge rich source of information which is largely used in research by scholars, policy makers and corporate managers. The usage of NSSO’s unit level data is largely used by researchers working on Indian economy across universities and research Institutions in the world and not restricted to India alone. In absence of any manual of extracting unit level data from the files provided by NSSO, researchers often find it difficult to use NSSO’s unit level data in their research. The purpose of the present workshop is to help researchers acquire the knack of handling unit level data, analyse and interpret the data and reach logical conclusions.
